Common Tree Problems In Mayfield

  • Camphor Laurel: Very common throughout Mayfield’s older streets — planted as shade trees generations ago and now well established on properties that have changed hands multiple times since. They grow fast, develop heavy canopies, and the root systems are relentless. Driveways, paths, and underground pipes are all at risk as the roots mature. Camphor Laurel is a Regionally Controlled Weed under the NSW Biosecurity Act 2015
  • Eucalypts: The established gums in Mayfield’s older gardens are generally sound trees but limb drop is the reason most people call us. Eucalypts shed branches naturally, but when a tree is over a roof, driveway, or fence line it becomes a genuine risk. A structural assessment and targeted deadwood removal is usually all that’s needed to reduce that risk without compromising the tree.

They’re fast-growing, brittle-wooded, and the large branches break readily in storms with minimal warning. Coral Tree is also listed as a weed in parts of NSW due to its suckering habit. If you have one overhanging a structure, it’s worth getting it assessed sooner rather than later.
  • Palms: Cocos Palms dominate in Mayfield’s older gardens, planted for the tropical look, now mostly a maintenance burden. Constant frond drop, seed heads that attract fruit bats, and trunk density that makes removal more involved than it appears. On a tight suburban block near fencing or powerlines, they need to come down in sections.
  • Privet : Broadleaf and narrowleaf privet both appear regularly in Mayfield gardens and along fences. Both are Regionally Controlled Weeds under the NSW Biosecurity Act 2015, both are prolific self-seeders, and both are significant hay fever contributors during flowering season. Remove them before they set seed if possible.

Waratah Professional Tree Care has trimmed our massive Iron Bark tree a number of times - last week being the latest. Steven is nothing short of amazing as he navigates up and down, from limb to limb, trimming off branches which are bigger than most trees. Waratah Professional Tree Care  has been pruning my trees for some years now and always do a great job. This time around I had two rogue trees at the front of my home which needed to be removed. The quote was a fair one and it all went ahead. I am simply in awe of this team,as I watched some of the time. They know exactly what they are doing and they do it well. They kept me informed on everything and were very respectful. Safety was an issue,  as one tree was very big. They managed it all very well. After all that, they trimmed my grass, tidied up - and my front lawn looked the best it has been in some time. I was advised as to what would happen in regard to the Tree stump.
