Palm Tree Removal Newcastle

Yes, we remove palms, fronds, trunk and stump, across Newcastle and the Hunter.

Palm Tree Removal And Trimming Across Newcastle & The Hunter

Palms aren’t like other trees to take out, the trunk’s fibrous rather than woody, the fronds are heavy and awkward, and the tall ones need proper rigging to come down safely next to a house or pool.
As qualified arborists since 1998, we remove the whole palm and clean up the mess that palm trees cause

Why palms Need Experts

People assume a palm is easy because it’s “just a trunk.” It isn’t:

  • The trunk is fibrous, not woody: it doesn’t chip or split like a hardwood, so it’s handled and disposed of differently.
  • Fronds are heavy and can be dangerous: a falling frond or seed head off a tall palm has real weight behind it.
  • The mess: species like the Cocos palm constantly drop fronds and berries that stain paving, clog gutters and attract rats and fruit bats.
  • Height and access: mature Cocos and date palms get very tall, often right next to the house, pool or fence, so they need to be dismantled in sections rather than felled.

Do you Trim And Tidy Palm Trees?

Some palm trees are beautiful statement trees, these are usually Canary Island date palms, Mexican Fan Palms and Kentia Palms, and they require specialised equipment to properly care for them. They usually need maintaining every 12 months and we have all the necessary equipment to maintain and care for your larger palm trees.

  • Removal of dead palm fronds
  • Lifting the canopy and cleaning up the trunk
  • Removal of messy fruit or pods
  • Mulching and chipping palm tree leaves
  • Frond thinning and grinding

Palms we remove most around Newcastle

  • Cocos / Queen palm: by far the most common removal. Messy, fast-growing, drops berries that attract pests, and considered a weed in a lot of gardens.
  • Canary Island date palm: huge, heavy, with vicious spiny fronds. Definitely not a DIY job.
  • Bangalow palm: native, often in clumps, common in older Newcastle gardens.
  • Golden cane and other clumping palms: usually smaller but can take over a garden bed.

Our Palm Tree Process

We follow a structured, safety-focused process to ensure every tree removal is completed efficiently and responsibly.

1

Site Assessment

We evaluate the tree’s health, stability, and location, including access, nearby buildings, and fall zones.

2

Risk Management

Hazards are identified and controlled before work begins, using qualified climbers and certified gear.

3

Safe Removal

Palms are removed in stages using ropes and rigging to lower each limb safely. Nothing is left to chance.

4

Clean-Up

All debris is mulched or removed, leaving your yard clear, safe, and damage-free.

What full palm removal includes

One job, start to finish: we take the fronds and seed heads off, dismantle the trunk in sections, and remove or grind the stump so you’re not left with a base to deal with. Then we clear the debris. If you want the area replanted afterwards, we also do tree planting.
For other trees on the block, see tree removal and stump grinding.

Do you need council approval?

It depends on the palm and your council. Some councils treat Cocos palms as a weed species and exempt them from approval; others still protect palms over a certain height under their tree controls. We assess yours and tell you plainly whether it’s exempt or needs an application before any work starts.

What it costs

Palm removal is quoted on the height of the palm, access, how close it is to structures, and whether you want the stump out as well. We come and look, then give you a free written quote with no flat-rate guesswork.

Where we work

Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Cessnock, Port Stephens and the wider Hunter region.

FAQS For Palm Removal In Newcastle

Find answers to common questions about our tree care services, safety procedures, and what to expect when working with our qualified arborists.

Yes. We take the fronds, dismantle the trunk and remove or grind the stump so the area’s clear and ready to use. Stump removal is your call: some people want it gone completely, others are happy to grind it down.

They grow fast, drop fronds and berries constantly, and those berries attract rats and fruit bats. They’re widely treated as a weed, which is why they’re our most common palm removal around Newcastle.

Yes. That’s exactly why a palm gets dismantled in sections with proper rigging rather than just cut down. It comes out in controlled pieces so nothing lands on the house, fence or pool.

Sometimes. Some councils exempt Cocos palms as a weed; others protect taller palms under their tree rules. We’ll check what applies to your address before we start so you’re not caught out.

The removal itself is tidy because we section it down, and the bonus is you stop the ongoing mess of dropped fronds and berries for good. We clear all the debris when we’re done..
