The Brief

Rutherford’s off leash dog park is one of the most well-used open spaces in the Maitland local government area. As part of a council-driven community improvement project, Maitland City Council engaged Waratah Professional Tree Care to plant and maintain advanced trees along the park boundary and within the park to improve shade and amenity for the community.

Our Approach

Council projects like this come with a defined scope and planting specifications that we work to, our job is to execute that work to a high standard and ensure every tree gives itself the best possible chance of establishing well.

At Rutherford, that meant planting advanced trees with proper soil preparation, staking, and securing each tree correctly on the day. Advanced stock was selected for this site because the park needed trees with immediate presence, families and their dogs are using this space every weekend, and the shade benefit needed to come quickly rather than waiting years for smaller stock to grow on.

What sets a professional planting job apart is what happens after the trees go in. As part of our engagement with Maitland City Council, we are providing six months of follow-up maintenance through the establishment period, returning to site regularly to check soil moisture, adjust stakes, and monitor tree health. That ongoing care is the difference between trees that establish and trees that fail.

Progress

The trees were planted this week and we will continue with the six-month maintenance program, to monitor and care for each tree through to full establishment.
